  1. Search Options

    Sample Search Phrase:
    Fires Caused by Earthquakes

    1. Overview
      Searches are not case sensitive. All search options below support partial matches except for exact match phrase.
    2. ANY WORDS
      The HazLit Search Engine will search for any instance of each word in the selected
      search fields Using the above sample phrase the search engine will search the database for 'Fires or Caused or by or Earthquakes'.
    3. ALL WORDS
      The HazLit Search Engine will search for ALL words in the search phrase in no particular order Using the above sample phrase, the search engine will search the database for 'Fires and Caused and by and Earthquakes'
    4. EXACT PHRASE
      The HazLit Search Engine will search for an exact match of the search phrase as entered.
    5. BEGINS WITH
      The HazLit Search Engine will search for selected search fields that begin with the entered search phrase.

  2. Search Fields

    1. Title
      Searches all title fields for your search phrase. You can enter full or partial titles.
    2. Author
      Searches all Author fields for your search phrase. No distinction is made for first/middle/last names. If you know the author's full name, type it in the search text field and choose 'Exact Match' from the search methods. If you only know the last name, then type the last name in the search text field and choose 'Any Words' and the HazLit Search Engine will search all Author fields for the last name you entered.
    3. Keyword
      If you select ‘keyword’ from the search field options, a drop down list of keywords will appear. Once you select a keyword it will automatically appear in the Search Text field. The Search Engine will return every record that has your keyword in its associated list.
    4. Call #
      If you know the call number of your reference, choose this option. Supports partial matches.
    5. Year Published
      Searches the publication date for your entered date and returns all records that match

  3. Single Field Search

    To perform a single field search:
    1. Choose a field to search from the Search Fields drop down box 
    2. Enter text phrase to be searched in the Search Text field
    3. Choose the search method you would like to use (Any, All, Exact, Begins With).
    4. Click on the Search Single Field button.
    5. Review the results. For help on marking records click here.
