Training and Mentoring the Next Generation of Researchers
from Historically Marginalized Groups

IBS seeks to provide equitable opportunities for individuals from historically marginalized social categories across the social and behavioral sciences pipeline, from training and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, to recruitment and retention of researchers, to cultivation of leaders in research fields and organizations. Learn more about our training and mentoring programs here.

Undergraduate Research for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Originally through the UREDI program and now via the STUDIO Social Science program, IBS is committed to support undergraduate research, strongly emphasizing the training and mentoring of BIPOC, first-generation, and other college students historically marginalized and under-represented in social and behavioral science. This program aims at providing hands-on research experience in various fields across IBS programs and centers. Learn more about STUDIO Social Science here.

Building a Culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

To create and maintain IBS as a highly equitable, diverse, and inclusive institute requires: discrete, measurable actions that are regularly evaluated; training opportunities so we are all more aware and have better tools to address forms of interpersonal and institutional bias, including those aimed at improving equity in the practice of research; and, resources to support our members when we stumble. Research, Scholarship, and Outreach to Promote
Anti-Racism, Anti-Sexism, and Other Forms of Equity

IBS actively supports research on DEI-related issues and researchers of under-represented backgrounds in many ways, including: IBS graduate summer research support and small grants programs; UREDI and STUDIO undergraduate social science programs; IBS and CUPC Pilot Grant Programs; and, the IBS Seminar Series. Many of our externally-funded projects explicitly aim at improving equity in society. Learn more about our support for DEI research here.

IBS is committed to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in social and behavioral science through our research, training, mentoring, and organizational culture.

We will strive to:

  • Make and maintain IBS as a highly equitable, diverse, and inclusive place.
  • Provide equitable opportunities for individuals from historically marginalized social categories across the social and behavioral science pipeline.
  • Promote research that improves understanding and addresses equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Please support DEI efforts @IBS! Your donation provides discretionary support for equity, diversity, and inclusion programming in our Institute to enhance recruitment, mentoring, and training of next generation researchers with diverse backgrounds.
