Brief Biography
Luis Verdin-Gomez is an undergraduate student (rising senior) at Rice University, double majoring in sociology and statistics and minoring in data science. He is a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (NSF-REU) Student at the Natural Hazards Center for summer 2023. He is broadly interested in the areas of disaster/environmental sociology and risk perception as well as their intersection with quantitative methods. In previous research projects, Verdin-Gomez has worked on exploring the social dimension of vulnerability and assisted on the construction of vulnerability indices. Outside of academics, he enjoys exploring new music, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Verdin-Gomez is passionate about using his skills to make a positive impact on society.
