IBS training supplements on-the-ground preparation with events and courses in professional socialization, writing, and qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Who Can Participate?

All graduate students and postdocs who are admitted through the University of Colorado Boulder’s various social and behavioral science-related departments and programs may be affiliated. Since the Institute of Behavioral Science is not a degree-granting unit, please refer to the admissions materials of the Departments of Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, the School of Education, and the Environmental Studies Program, among others.

Prospective students and postdocs who are visiting campus are welcome to schedule a tour of the Institute by emailing carew.boulding@colorado.edu.

Most of our training opportunities are available to all CU-Boulder students and postdocs, regardless of affiliation with the Institute.

How to Get Involved with IBS

  1. Contact our IBS-affiliated faculty and research associates to see if you can get involved in a research project. To affiliate with the Institute, you can be advised by one of our faculty, or you can be advised by someone else and collaborate on research with one of our faculty or research associates.
  2. Attend our regular colloquia, giving you the opportunity to learn more about the kinds of research that are conducted at the Institute and interact with Institute personnel.
  3. Attend our Institute-led training opportunities, which can provide you with expanded knowledge about interdisciplinary research and methods and professional socialization for success in graduate school and in academic and nonacademic settings.

Current Students

IBS student and postdoctoral affiliates come from a wide range of departments and programs. Biographies of our students and postdocs can be found here, and you can read about the many grants and awards they have received and their publications. Potential employers should take a look at our students on the job market. Prospective students and postdocs may be interested in our testimonials from former Institute-affiliated students.
